Main Applications Of Anionic Emulsion Bitumen SS-1h

Bitumen Emulsion SS-1h is a slow-setting, high-viscosity emulsion with a harder residual bitumen, making it ideal for stronger and more durable applications. Key uses include:

  1. Tack Coat: SS-1h is widely used as a tack coat in road construction. It forms a strong adhesive layer between the existing pavement and new asphalt overlays, ensuring proper bonding and preventing slippage between layers.

  2. Prime Coat: SS-1h serves as a prime coat on granular base courses or sub-base layers before applying hot mix asphalt. It helps to penetrate and bind loose particles, creating a solid foundation for the subsequent layers.

  3. Crack Sealing: SS-1h is effective for sealing cracks in asphalt pavements. The higher viscosity and hard bitumen residue provide excellent protection against water infiltration, helping to prevent further damage.

  4. Slurry Seals and Micro Surfacing: Used in slurry seals and micro surfacing, SS-1h is mixed with fine aggregates to create a thin surface layer. This layer protects the road surface from wear and extends its lifespan, while also providing skid resistance.

  5. Patching and Repair: SS-1h is used for patching and repairing damaged asphalt surfaces, particularly in areas that require a more durable bond due to high traffic or environmental stress.

  6. Fog Seals: SS-1h is applied as a fog seal to rejuvenate weathered or aged asphalt surfaces. It helps restore flexibility, seal minor cracks, and protect the surface from oxidation and moisture damage.

  7. Soil Stabilization: It can also be used in soil stabilization, where it binds soil particles to improve the structural integrity of the road base or sub-base layers.

  8. Heavy Traffic Surfaces: Due to its harder bitumen residue, SS-1h is suitable for use on high-traffic surfaces, where greater durability and resistance to deformation are needed.
