Main Applications Of Anionic Emulsion Bitumen SS-1

Bitumen Emulsion SS-1 is a slow-setting, water-based emulsion commonly used in road construction and maintenance due to its extended working time and excellent adhesion properties. Key applications include:

  1. Tack Coat: Bitumen SS-1 is commonly used as a bonding layer between an existing pavement and a new asphalt layer. It helps create strong adhesion and prevents slippage between layers of asphalt concrete.

  2. Prime Coat: Applied as a primer on non-asphalt surfaces (like granular bases) before laying asphalt. It penetrates and binds loose aggregates, creating a stable surface for subsequent layers.

  3. Soil Stabilization: Used in soil stabilization to improve the strength and durability of base layers for road construction. It binds soil particles together, reducing dust and erosion.

  4. Dust Control: Effective in controlling dust on unpaved roads, construction sites, or mining operations. It forms a coating over the surface, reducing airborne particles.

  5. Fog Seal: SS-1 is used as a fog seal on aged pavements to rejuvenate the surface and provide a thin protective layer, which seals minor cracks and restores surface flexibility.

  6. Mixing with Aggregates: It is also used in cold mix asphalt applications, where the emulsion is mixed with aggregates to create a pliable mixture for road surfacing or patching.

  7. Crack Sealing: SS-1 can be used in the filling of small cracks in the pavement, preventing water from entering and causing damage to the underlying layers.
